Introducing BT TV

With half a century of providing telecommunications services to the UK, BT is one of the best-known names in broadband, now delivering high-speed services via fibre to millions of customers around the country. And it’s that superfast fibre broadband that makes an especially great home for BT’s subscription TV service, BT TV. Delivered exclusively over BT broadband, BT TV offers a huge range of channels across several channel packs and plans, with superfast fibre services enabling true 4K streaming.

BT TV’s delivery via BT’s own broadband network means that the service is optimised for high quality streaming, and regardless of which BT TV box you get, you’ll also be able to view up to 80 Freeview broadcast channels alongside your premium channel packs.

What Makes BT TV Different?

Because it’s delivered via broadband rather than the traditional satellite method that other pay TV services use, BT TV doesn’t require you to install any extra hardware outside your home – you just need to connect your BT TV set top box to your BT Home Hub and plug in your TV antenna cable. Depending on the speed that your broadband connection can deliver, you’ll have access to a varied range of packages that combine a BT TV set top box with a range of premium channels and on-demand entertainment.

What TV Packages Does BT TV Offer?

With a vast range of channels spread across four different packages, BT TV has a package to suit everyone’s needs, budget and broadband connection.

Starter + Sport: The entry level package, this includes 50 channels and a set top box that lets you pause and rewind live TV, but not record shows. You also bet BT Sport in standard definition, access to seven days of catch-up TV from the BBC, ITV and others, and the ability to rent or buy the latest movies and TV box sets on the BT TV store. Fibre broadband customers can also add BT Sport HD, Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Extra.

Essential/Classic: Adding a set top box that can record up to 300 hours of television, these two packages give you the channels from the starter pack plus the ability to add on-demand bolt-ons – Netflix, Sky Cinema, Kids and Music. Classic (only available on fibre connections) also includes the ability to add BT Sport HD.

Entertainment: Expanding the channel count to 68, the Entertainment package is only available on fibre and adds a range of extra channels including AMC, Universal, Comedy Central, National Geographic, Discovery and more. You can choose the Music and Kids Extra bolt-ons if you want them, and also add bonus premium bolt-ons including Sky Cinema, Netflix, HD Extra, Kids Extra, Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Extra.

Max 4K: Boasting an incredible 104 channels covering everything from sport (including 8 BT Sport channels) to movies, documentaries and drama, the Max 4K package comes with a 4K recordable TV set top box, BBC Sport HD and AMC HD at no extra cost, and the ability to add more premium channels including Sky Cinema, Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Extra. If you opt for the Max 4K Sport 4K package you also get BT Sport Ultra HD for the ultimate in 4K sporting picture quality.

What Set Top Boxes Does BT TV Have?

Custom-designed for BT TV and stylishly functional in black and silver, the three different set top boxes that BT TV supplies under the YouView banner all have access to the same basic functionality, but differ in their ore advanced features.

The base TV Box simply receives BT TV and Freeview – letting you pause and rewind live TV – and access catch-up services.

The Recordable TV Box does everything that the TV Box does, but adds a built-in hard drive to allow recording up to 300 hours of TV from all sources.

The 4K Recordable TV Box comes with the Max 4K TV package, and is described as the “boss of the boxes” for good reason. Powered by the very latest in video tech and the winner of a 2017 CSI Award for Best Interactive TV Technology, the 4K Recordable TV Box lets you take full advantage of a 4K TV’s super-crisp picture quality.

Does BT TV Have Premier League Football?

Yes indeed – with BT Sport bringing you 52 Premier League games every season until 2022, Premier League fans will be right at home with BT TV’s coverage, which also includes every match of the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Europa League.
