Peaky Blinders

The Peaky Blinders series has become one of the biggest and most successful BBC productions since it first aired back in 2013. Now in its 5th season, it’s a certified global phenomenon, documenting the ascent of the Shelby Family, a Midlands gang who have gone from rags to riches via some heavy-handed violence and edge of your seat drama. Lead character Tommy Shelby, played by the excellent Cillian Murphy, has his sights set on the Houses of Parliament, but there is a strange, fascist politician waiting in the wings, looking to change the face of Britain. Is Tommy willing to change the future for himself and the nation, or will his past drag him back into the underworld?

Strictly Come Dancing

The ratings monster that is Strictly Come Dancing is back with a whole host of celebrities aiming to dazzle judges with their quik-steps and pivots, all striving to become the 2019 champion. This year’s roster of dancers includes the likes of Eastenders star Emma Barton, comedian Chris Ramsey and actor Karim Zeroual, all hoping to follow in the footsteps of last year’s winner and darling of the British public, Stacey Dooley. There’s even a new judge this year, as Motsi Mabuse replaces the outgoing Dame Darcy Bussell.

The Apprentice

Believe it or not, The Apprentice is now in its 15th season. Lord Alan Sugar returns again to put a group of wannabe entrepreneurs through their paces to see who has the credentials to win a contract at one of his many firms. The standout question, as ever, is why someone with the experience of Lord Sugar would even entertain working with the types he is presented with! They constantly make terrible mistakes, communicate like a bunch of school children and find it difficult to think of anyone else but themselves. But, this is what makes so enthralling and addictive to watch!

The programme is based around the fictional Holby City Hospital and focuses on the staff and patients of the hospital's Accident and Emergency Department. The show has very few ties to its sister programme Holby City which began as a spin off from Casualty in 1999 and is set in the same hospital, but upstairs. The show's plots and characters occasionally crossover between the two programmes, but this is rare, and each show can easily be followed without having to watch the other. Casualty is shown weekly on a Saturday evening, which has been its time slot since the early 1990s.

Baby JakeBaby Jake is a children's television programme originally broadcast in the UK and first aired on 4 July 2011. The programme features Jake, a nine-month old baby. Jake is the youngest of ten children all living in a windmill with their parents. Each episode features Jake embarking on an adventure with a host of magical characters including Pengy Quin the Penguin, Toot Toot the Tractor, the Rocket Ship, Captain Spacey and the Hamsternauts, Nibbles the Rabbit, Sydney the Monkey, and, of course, Magic Baby Jake, himself.

Jake's babbling is translated by his 5-year old brother Isaac. Isaac is voiced by a real-life 5-year-old boy, in a move described by the Guardian as "a risk" since the majority of successful children's television is narrated by adults. The roles of Jake and Isaac are portrayed by real-life brothers Adamo and Franco Bertacchi-Morroni respectively, with Kaizer Akhtar providing the voice of Isaac.

The programme cost £1.85m to produce, and was funded by the Irish Film Board and CBeebies.

Darrall Macqueen Ltd and JAM Media co-produced the series. JAM Media are an Irish animation studio who also made Tilly and Friends. Maddy Darrall was quoted by the Metro as gaining inspiration for the show from watching her 7-year-old nephew understanding her 1-year-old son.

Bettany begins in Georgia where she discovers evidence of the world's oldest wine production, and the role it may have played in building communities. In Athens she reveals Bacchus's pivotal role in a society where his ecstatic worship was embraced by all classes, and most importantly women. On Cyprus she uncovers startling parallels between Bacchus and Christ. BreakawayBreakaway plays out like a visual symphony. A prototype for the best (but still, lesser) contemporary formalist music videos, like Peter Care’s “What’s the Frequency, Kenneth?” and “Drive” (both for REM), Conner’s movie is an experiment in the visual language of film.
