From Khabib Nurmagomedov’s dominance to the return of the brawler Nate Diaz, 2019 has been a memorable year for British UFC fight fans. From all the pre-fight news conferences to the final bell, the US promotion continues to dominate the international mixed martial arts landscape.
As we head towards the end of the year, attention now turns to who can make a challenge for World Titles come 2020. Whether watching the coverage live and uninterrupted on your couch or from your mobile device, you’re guaranteed not to miss a moment of the action.
How to Watch the UFC on UK TV
In 2019, UFC has seen some of the hardest fought contests in recent memory, a reminder of why it remains so popular to real fight fans and casual viewers alike. One of the major highlights has been BT Sport’s UK coverage, with the network securing exclusive rights to show every moment of the action from every major event on the calendar.
UFC fighters are experts in multiple fight disciplines, which is also known as Mixed Martial Arts. These disciplines include Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Thai Boxing and Western Boxing. There is no protection other than small, fingerless gloves and fights take place in an Octagon, which has a nine-metre diameter canvas surrounded by a two-metre high cage fence.
Among the must-see events in 2019 are UFC Fight Night, which takes place three times a month, and the UFC World Title bouts which take place monthly – both of which cover a range of weight categories. During these events some of the most skilled Mixed Martial Artist’s fight across 5×5 minute rounds, with judges scoring fights that aren’t concluded by submission or knockout.
UFC Live on BT Sport TV
BT Sport has signed an exclusive deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, bringing you UFC events live on UK TV. From 2018 to 2020, the network is showing every UFC Fight Night live and in high definition – including all the lead-up, pre-fight talk and undercard fights. The experienced BT Sports team comes via ESPN, with John Anik, Todd Grisham and Brendan Fitzgerald bringing you the insider’s scoop and top-shelf analysis of all the sport’s most skilled fighters, with every moment – from the opening bell to the judges’ scorecards – available in Ultra HD.
The UFC on Free to Air
Unfortunately, their is no UFC free to air provider in the UK, meaning that it is not an option for terrestrial TV viewers. The channel has held the rights to UFC since 2013, with the current deal set to expire in 2020. It looks like the partnership between BT and UFC is set to go beyond this current agreement, so there is little chance that we will see the MMA promotion on freeview or terrestrial TV in the near future.
UFC on Sky / NOW TV
You can still subscribe to BT Sport if you are a Sky TV customer, however, this option is not available on Sky’s alternative streaming platform, Now TV. If you have any type of Sky TV subscription, you can add the BT Sport package by contacting your service provider directly. Sky customers can choose either a twelve-month contract or a rolling monthly plan which can be cancelled at any time.
UFC Blachowicz vs Jacare TV Preview
The next UFC Fight Night features an encounter between to powerhouses. Polish light heavyweight Jan Błachowicz will take on Brazillian veteran Ronaldo Souza on November 17 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Souza is returning to the Octagon after a defeat to Jack Hermansson in spring, whilst Blachowicz is searching for his 25th UFC career victory.
There’s also an enticing upcoming heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and the undefeated Jairzinho Rozenstruik on December 8 – which could easily end in a big knock out.
The UFC Main Events – the most prestigious on the UFC calendar – take place almost every weekend throughout the year. The next World Title fight to take place is between Welterweight World Champion Usman Kararu and challenger Colby Covington. The card is called UFC 245, and will be the final UFC show of the year where a title is up for grabs.
Although plenty of us have Kamaru down as a clear favourite since the fight was announced, Colby Covington is out to ask some serious questions and cause an upset. Out of all his 16 professional fights, Kamaru has only lost once, a submission in his second contest back in 2013. His last four fights have gone to the scorecards, so expect plenty of technical grappling from this black belt in Brazillian Jiu Jitsu.

In 2019, BT Sport is televising all major UFC fights live, in Ultra HD, with replays of the bouts you may have missed. With the online BT TV app you can have up to four devices registered on your subscription at any time, while you can add a new device above the limit once every 30 days.
